The latest report on Guangxi sugar output shows a significant surge…
China’s largest sugar-producing region, Guangxi, has recorded a strong performance in the 2025/26 crushing season. As of April 30, 2026, 72 out of 74 sugar mills in the region had concluded their crushing operations, with only two mills still running, processing a cumulative 60.91 million metric tons of sugarcane — up 12.31 million metric tons year-on-year.
Total sugar output for the season reached 7.695 million metric tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.23 million metric tons, representing a 19.03% growth compared to the previous season. The overall sugar recovery rate stood at 12.63%, a slight decline of 0.67 percentage points from last year, reflecting changes in cane quality and processing conditions.
On the sales side, cumulative sugar sales totaled 3.754 million metric tons, down 381,200 metric tons year-on-year. The sales-to-production ratio fell to 48.79%, a significant drop of 15.17 percentage points compared to the same period last season, indicating that supply growth is outpacing market absorption.
In April alone, Guangxi produced 287,900 metric tons of sugar, while monthly sales reached 688,900 metric tons — up 31,600 metric tons year-on-year, suggesting steady downstream demand during the month. Industrial inventories climbed sharply to 3.941 million metric tons, up 1.611 million metric tons from a year earlier, pointing to substantial stockpile buildup as the season draws to a close.
